Walkshop Sendling – Facets of Urban Mobility: From the new Harras to the belly of Munich

The walkshop Sendling at the Conference Walk21 starts at the renewed urban place Harras. Previously the place was marked of through traffic, parked cars and an abandoned tram junction. Now an attractive neighborhood square has emerged. With its new pavement and urban furniture the place is an important comuting point of bus, subway (U-Bahn), suburban train (S-Bahn) and regional train (Bayrische Oberlandbahn).

The trainstation is connected to a busy main road on the one side and with a major axis of the pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the other side. A staircase leads us down to the heart of Sendling. The district has arisen around a farming village outside the city boundarys of Munich. Due to the history and the topography the district has stairs and paths relationships, which make it particularly permeable to pedestrian traffic. In addition, the backyards, squares and parks, together with the 100-year old buildings create a livable amenity value.

We tangle the borders of that quarter. On our way we pass the belly of Munich – the „Großmarkthalle“, some schools and 4 churches. Two subway stations, one suburban train station, several bus-stops and two parking lots with carsharing show as examples the sustainable mobility in that quarter.
Sendling presents as a lively „village in the city“.
